The BFSS is proud to be a Membership organisation, and welcomes and encourages applications from people who would like to join. If you would like to apply to become a Member please click here for an application form.
The role of Members
Members are expected to contribute their ideas, skills and experience to help the Society grow and thrive, and meet its charitable objects; to be part of a vibrant and engaged community, with the education of under privileged young people at its heart. There is also a formal role for members, to nominate and elect from the Membership the Councillors and Officers of the Society.
Why become a Member?
Being a member gives the opportunity to participate in a community of interest. Members have the opportunity to join with like-minded people who have a passion to help improve the educational opportunity of the most disadvantaged young people in the UK and across the world. Members have access to regular updates about the work of the Society, and to our publications on projects ongoing and completed and on the impact of our work.
Each year, the Society holds its Annual General Meeting to which all members are invited. Members have the opportunity to bring resolutions to the meeting, to help drive the direction, strategy and operation of the Society. It is also a chance to meet with other members, and share views and experience.
Members are also invited to the Society’s annual Grants Workshop, which is attended by representatives from over 50 of our grant recipient organisations. This is a rare opportunity to meet with charitable organisation who share our values and aims, to be part of detailed discussions about the challenges faced by the sector, how to meet those challenges and improve.
Who should apply?
The Society is looking for members from a wide variety of backgrounds with an interest in the aims and objectives of the Society. This includes, but is not limited to, those with a background in education, including teacher educators and teachers, as well as professionals working in the charity sector. The Society welcomes applicants with the passion to offer their skills and time to help young people succeed.
