BFSS Scholars celebrate success at the Brunel Urban Scholars Graduation Ceremony

On Saturday 23rd June Professor Steve Hodkinson, Chair of the BFSS Grants Committee and former Pro Vice-Chancellor at Brunel University, awarded certificates at the Graduation Ceremony for Urban Scholars at Brunel University.   The BFSS had given a 2-year grant to Brunel University to support scholars from Southwark on the Urban Scholars Programme, which is for young students from disadvantaged backgrounds in inner London boroughs.  The scholars are selected by their schools in recognition that they have the potential for high achievement but may not necessarily be achieving their best.  The BFSS Scholars from Southwark, who have had to get up very early on a  Saturday morning to travel to Uxbridge for a 9.30am start, have had a 100% attendance.  The Graduation Ceremony heard presentations from a number of the scholars, who were now on course to go to university with several of them aspiring to be doctors.  The scholars’ families were there to celebrate their achievements.
