The Archive of the British & Foreign School Society (BFSS) is probably the most important collection in the world on 19th-century elementary education and teacher training.
Managed by Brunel University Archives, it contains a wealth of information relating to its early formation, including committee minutes and papers, financial documents, establishment and progress of the British Schools, 19th century schools (both domestic and overseas) correspondence, registers, magazines, staff, student and building photographs, monitorial medals, a large selection of educational books and sewing samples. In all there are 178 linear metres (or 15 cubic metres) of archive material.
The Report also contains an article about retiring BFSS Council Member Brian York.
This is the second British & Foreign School Society (BFSS) Archives Annual Report. View on our Publications page.
