New grants awarded – October 2021

October 2021 Grants Committee report 

We received 100 applications for the October grants round and nine were accepted by the Grants Committee, one UK and eight international projects.   

UK grants awarded: 

Refugee Education UK were awarded a grant of £63,107 for their three-year project to launch a regional pilot to offer tailored support to help young refugees to the UK to understand their entitlements and access further education through workshops, communications, case work support for your refugees as well as training for social workers. 

International grants awarded:  

Chance for Childhood were awarded £60,000 for their two-year project training 10 schools in Ghana to identify, enrol and support 600 children with disabilities. Focuses particularly on early years and includes plans to inform government policy. 

Sabre Education Limited were awarded £29,721 for a one-year project to  provide enhanced practical training through a model classroom scheme and mentorship for student teachers, working directly with teacher training colleges in Ghana. 

Carers Worldwide were awarded £47,096 for a two-year project to support children with disabilities and their sibling carers through teacher-led digital education in Bangalore, India. 

Signpost International were awarded £29,983 for a one-year project to construct latrines, produce hygiene kits and WASH education in two schools in Uganda with clear links to improved educational outcomes. 

The Mwezi Foundation were awarded £35,097 for a two-year project to distribute solar lights to 150 remote schools in Kenya, to enable students who are approaching their end of primary exams to study in the evenings. 

Redearth Education was awarded £41,149 for a two-year project in Uganda to provide continuing professional development for teachers in 98 schools through radio programmes and podcasts. 

Entraide (Mutual Aid) was awarded £30,000 for a one-year construction project to rebuild a  primary school in Democratic Republic of the Congo. 

Fields of Life was awarded £60,000 for a three-year multi-faceted project focusing on improving outcomes for girls in five schools in Uganda, through challenging attitudes about girls’ education, reducing gender-based violence and providing IT equipment and training.
