The refurbished 2-classroom block at Muungano Primary School

In February 2014 BFSS awarded a grant of just over £14,000 to KajoKeji Educational Trust for the completion of the renovation of the final two classrooms and construction of a new additional classroom at the primary school in Muungano in the coastal district of Tiwi, south of Mombasa, Kenya.  This was part of a continuing project to rebuild and extend the school, building on previous work by the KajoKeji Educational Trust which had already see nine classrooms renovated and rebuilt and one completely new classroom added to the school.   This latest project has successfully completed the classroom accommodation at what is now a 12-classroom primary school serving the village of Muungano. The latest project has increased the overall capacity of the school to accommodate an additional 40 children who currently have no classroom accommodation at all and has improved the learning environment for an additional 80 children.   Further, employment has been provided for a number of local people and retailers.    The expansion and improvement in the school facilities will deliver improved educational opportunities for many years.    KajoKeji have plans too for an additional small room to enable the facilities to be used by the local community out of school hours.   BFSS welcomes the speedy way in which the work has been completed and the capacity of the school increased, as evidenced in KajoKeji’s Report.
