Professor Steve Hodkinson has been appointed Chair of the BFSS, to succeed Mr Roger Howarth, who stepped down at this year’s AGM after six years as Chair of the Society. Until his appointment as Chair, Professor Hodkinson was Chair of BFSS’s Grants Committee.
After an early career devoted to teacher education in economics, in 1995 Professor Hodkinson joined Brunel University as Professor of Teacher Education, becoming Head of Education, then Dean of Professional Education and finally between 2000 and 2006 Pro Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for the external profile of the University. He has advised many organisations including the European Commission, UK financial institutions and major companies, government departments in England, Northern Ireland and Scotland as well as successive curriculum and assessment bodies in England. He has conducted EU wide projects as well as in China, Uzbekistan and central European states. From 2007 to 2011 he was consultant adviser to the Girls’ Day School Trust on their CityAcademy project in Birkenhead. From 2011-2013 he was a consultant to The English-Speaking Union.pro
Professor Hodkinson is Chair of the Streetgames Charity and Vice-Chair of Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and is a member of Teach First’s National Advisory Council. He represented education on Sport England’s London Regional Sports Board 2003-2009, was a Trustee of the HSBC Global Education Trust 2007-2010 and a Trustee of the Hillingdon Community Trust 2003-2006. He is a founder member and former governor of Stockley Academy, Hillingdon.
